"Traumatic experiences shake the foundations of our beliefs about safety, and shatter our assumptions of trust."
Dr. David V. Baldwin

Traumatic events usually provoke unusual emotional reactions. Although these reactions may seem unpredictable and scary, they are well documented and ultimately mostly treatable. Most importantly, these reactions are normal. Anyone participating or observing a traumatic event is likely to experience some or all of the symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or a trauma-related illness. Depression also commonly accompanies PTSD.
