Insurance Coverage and Tax Deductions

Most clients are pleased to discover they have coverage for a Psychologist through their extended medical plans. Your insurer may ask if the psychologist is registered. All psychologists at GPS are registered.

GPS psychologists are listed as service providers with Blue Cross and other selected agencies and we will be pleased to help you arrange services through your workplace EAP.

The easiest way to learn whether you have coverage for psychological services is to call your insurer, using the information on the insurance card you carry in your wallet. Provide your policy number and your ID number and ask what your coverage is for the services of a Registered Psychologist.

GPS provides receipts that are suitable for reimbursement by all insurers.

Receipts for services of a Psychologist are income-tax deductible as health-care expenses so please keep your receipts for your tax records.

For additional information, please see Insurance Information.

If you would like assistance with your insurance inquiries or if you have questions, please call us at 492-2546.

Fees may be paid with cash, debit cards, VISA or MasterCard.

We do not accept personal cheques.

Fees are paid at the beginning of the appointment, so it is a good idea to arrive a bit early.

Fees For Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is $155.00 per hour.

Payments are made at our Reception desk prior to your session so we encourage you to arrive a little bit early for your appointment.

If you need to cancel or change an appointment, please give us 24-hours’ notice so that we may fill that time with someone from our waiting list. Without the notice, we will be unable to fill the spot with someone else and you will, therefore, be charged for the missed appointment.

Fees For Couples' or Family Counselling

We find it most helpful to see a couple or a family for a two-hour appointment for the first appointment. After the first one, we usually book one-hour appointments once per week.

The fee for one hour of couples’ or family counselling is $170 per hour. The first appointment is two hours and costs $340.

After the initial appointment, some clients prefer longer appointments, while others prefer shorter. We are flexible in this, and your psychologist will help you determine what is the best arrangement for you.

If you need to cancel or change an appointment, please give us 24-hours’ notice so that we may fill that time with someone from our waiting list. Without the notice, we will be unable to fill the spot with someone else and you will, therefore, be charged for the missed appointment.

Fees for Missed Appointments or Appointments Cancelled Without Sufficient Notice

If you need to cancel or change an appointment, please give us 24-hours’ notice so that we may fill that time with someone from our waiting list. Without the notice, we will be unable to fill the spot with someone else, and the psychologist’s time is wasted.

In fairness to our psychologists, all appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24-hours' notice (regardless of the reason, whether it be illness, emergency or inclement weather) must be paid.

Due to insurance requirements, receipts for missed appointments must say "missed appointment," and these receipts are unlikely to be reimbursed by your insurer. GPS cannot issue a receipt as "therapy" if the appointment has been missed.

GPS closes 1) If a state of emergency is declared by the city; 2) If the universities close; 3) If there is an extended power outage in the city; and 4) If city busses are not running. Under these circumstances, appointments missed are not charged.

We offer telephone sessions when illness or inclement weather or other exigencies prevent clients from attending their regularly scheduled appointment. This is easily arranged by calling us at 492-2546.
